Nikki Urbon, BSN, RN – Team Member Scholarship Helping Nikki Set Her Sights on Improving Care for Older Adults
Nikki Urbon has worked in various roles at UMRC & Porter Hills over the past 6 ½ years. A scholarship from the UMRC and Porter Hills Foundations’ Team Member Support Services fund is allowing Nikki to continue to grow in her career. She is currently enrolled in the master of science in nursing (MSN) degree program at Spring Arbor University.
“My MSN will allow me to become a better nurse and leader through continued education,” says Nikki who serves as the RN Clinical Manager for Porter Hills Home Health. “My plan is to remain in the adult and geriatric field while being able to support my team and patients at a higher level.”
“Porter Hills Home Health provides exceptional care in the comfort of your own home,” explains Jamie Palma, MSOL, Executive Director of Certified Home Health and Avenues for UMRC & Porter Hills. “A team of registered nurses; occupational, physical, and speech therapists; licensed medical social workers; and home health aides are available to work with physicians and provide the level of care and assistance needed while you recover at home.”
At Porter Hills Home Health, Nikki has transitioned from a field clinician to her current management position. “I manage all of the home health nurses to ensure that quality work is performed,” says Nikki. “I also collaborate with the home health management team to ensure we are providing the appropriate services to patients, supporting our team adequately, and being fiscally responsible.”
“I have had the privilege over the last several years to see Nikki blossom into a true professional,” says Jamie. “She carries herself with grace and determination, and her work ethic is far above par. Nikki is driven and motivated by serving others, utilizing her clinical skill set to improve lives.”
Thanks to her scholarship, Nikki has already achieved the first step in the RN to MSN process. “I have obtained my bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree with this scholarship and feel that I have learned to become a better leader to my team,” says Nikki. “I would like to thank the UMRC and Porter Hills Foundations for helping me to achieve this goal and for their continued support in my career.”
