Be Kind To Servers Month
As we celebrate Be Kind to Servers Month, it’s the perfect time to shine a light on the incredible dining teams at Brio Living Services. These team members do more than serve meals—they create experiences that bring people together, nurture connections, and make every moment spent in our communities special. Their work exceptionally reflects our dedication to enriching the lives of older adults.
At the heart of dining services is a commitment to listening and caring. Residents’ stories, memories, and traditions inspire the team to craft experiences that go beyond the ordinary. Whether it’s recreating a cherished dish from Michigan’s culinary heritage or designing a themed meal to transport diners to Comerica Park or Whoville for Christmas Grinch parties, the team consistently demonstrates creativity and heart. The first Tigers-themed meal was especially memorable—serving food in vendor boxes and shouting out orders brought smiles to everyone. Moments like these remind us that dining is about more than food; it’s about joy, laughter, and togetherness.
Kindness is a cornerstone of the dining experience at Brio Living Services. From serving grilled-to-order pancakes at Breakfast by the Pond at Porter Hills Village to celebrating birthdays with a custom three-course Chef’s Table menu, the dining teams create opportunities for joy and connection. These acts of kindness reflect their dedication to making every dining moment extraordinary. Chef Dante Owens, for example, recently showcased his talents by preparing a surf-and-turf menu that wowed residents, while Chef Spencer Grab participated in the Meals on Wheels Chef’s Specialty Contest, sharing a beloved family recipe with the broader community. Each event underscores the care and creativity that define Brio’s dining experience.
The team takes pride in ensuring every meal feels special, offering unique and memorable experiences across communities. At Chelsea Retirement Community, a luau-themed dinner brought residents together with festive decor and delicious island-inspired dishes. One resident even shared how these events have made their time at Brio unforgettable, saying, “The food here is out of this world! All the special things really add to the quality of the dining experience.” Our team members often gain fresh inspiration and valuable insights by attending conferences, participating in training sessions, and connecting with like-minded professionals. This exchange of ideas fuels their creativity, bringing innovative and delicious new dishes to our campuses. Our dining team masterfully blends tradition, innovation, and care, making every meal a highlight of the day.
As we recognize Be Kind to Servers Month, we encourage everyone to take a moment to thank a dining team member for all they do. A kind word, a note of appreciation, or even a nomination for the Promoting Our Mission (POM) Awards can go a long way in showing gratitude. These dedicated individuals bring care and creativity to the table every day, ensuring that dining at Brio Living Services is more than just a meal—it’s an experience to be cherished.
